Flairlight were approached by the BBC to assist with the design and supply of a lighting system for a local family. The youngest son was severely disabled and the family had struggled to provide the best possible care with limited resources or assistance.

Our approach was to treat this as a normal design & supply project and therefore we provided a lighting solution using the highest quality products.

Following discussions with the production team we decided to raise the bar and provide a Rako mood lighting control system linked to an iPad bridge and provide a Sonos wireless music system also linked to the iPad. This offered the family full lighting and music control throughout the property.

Flairlight donated not only the cost of the work which was £8,500, but also provided its programming team for free to assist the family and make their lives a little easier.

The family were so humble, proud and enormously grateful to all the team and what they had achieved in only a very short period of time.

The project gave all the Flairlight team an enormous feeling of satisfaction. The BBC DIY SOS the Big Build will be screened sometime during 2015 and as soon as we know when, we will of course publicise this on our blog and other social media platforms.

We always wondered if the guys on the programme actually get their hands dirty or just turn up at the end, but I can assure you that they are exactly the same in person as they are on the show, and that they put more hours in than anybody assisting. Over 300 trades assisted with the build, providing services and products without any requirement for remuneration.

The atmosphere was a real joy and we all made lots of friends among the way.
